Sputnik is a Congo African Grey
She is our third bird.
Sputnik was born on May 17, 2006 at Stewart's Bird Farm in Harleysville, PA.
We purchased Sputnik from Bob Freitas
We were lucky enough to get Sputnik when she was only 5 weeks old.
We hand fed her until she was about 12 weeks old.
This really helped with the bonding.
The name is from one of our other interests - Astronomy.
For those of you who don't remember - Sputnik was the first satellite launched into space by Russia on October 4, 1957.
We did not name her after the satellite - we just liked the astronomical name.
Here are some pictures of Sputnik.
You can see the progress as she goes from an very ugly baby bird to a fully gown African Grey.
